Give Yourself Credit!

Give Yourself Credit!

By: Elizabeth Louis

Take a second and reflect on either today or yesterday. As you reflect on how the day went, what you did, your attitude, and how you showed you, ask yourself this question.

Did I give myself credit for the role I played? OR did I chalk it up to luck or external factors?

Giving yourself credit is how you restore and replenish your self-esteem, and it’s how you create trust and cohesion with yourself.

Many people have low self-esteem because of how much they doubt themselves.

Do you know what self-doubt is? Self-conflict. It’s the conflict that stems from not BELIEVING you can trust yourself.

As a mental health coach recently turned performance therapist, I cannot help but notice how easy it is for low self-esteem to become an automatic way of being.

You must CONSCIOUSLY & INTENTIONALLY choose to do life differently – to show up differently towards yourself.

At some point, you must CHOOSE to BELIEVE in yourself. Of course, this is easier said than done, especially if you struggle with perfectionistic tendencies.

One way to do this is by giving yourself credit.

It’s critical to celebrate all wins, even the microscopic ones.

Doing so can help you learn how to trust yourself because as you are learning how to trust yourself, you will have to step out of your comfort zone and into vulnerability, which is uncomfortable for many.

Here’s the cool part of doing this, you will learn how POWERFUL & ABLE you are.

Yes, you might fail or make mistakes, but those “failures” hold tremendous data that you can use for your benefit. Failure refines one to greatness, and that data allows you to try it again with MORE information and insight than before. That’s a huge win!

Each time you will get better and better, but you will also need to recognize your growth. You have to start giving yourself credit and celebrating the minor victories to acknowledge your growth.

Anything outside that comfort zone is uncomfortable, but through giving yourself credit, celebrating small wins, and learning to be your own cheerleader, you can RADICALLY transform your relationship with yourself.

Here’s the thing, your opinion of yourself matters more than you may realize. Why?

Because everything you do, think of, and so forth runs through your biased perception of yourself. When you have a negative relationship with yourself, you will limit yourself through self-sabotaging behaviors.

Here lies the dichotomy. Now you will go back and forth like a ping-pong ball between kicking yourself for being a failure to setting yourself up to fail. You have to break the insanity, which you can only do by doing things differently.

That means changing your self-talk and expanding your horizons to see a 1% improvement as a huge win.

Each day strives to enhance your relationship with yourself 1% more each day; that’s a total of 365% in one year.

How is that losing?

Train your mind to work for you, not against you.
