Stop Following the Fruitless: Why Discerning Who You Follow Matters

Stop Following the Fruitless: Why Discerning Who You Follow Matters

I don’t understand emulating people with wicked hearts.
I’m not using the word “wicked” lightly. I’m using it biblically.

Wickedness isn’t just about outward behavior—it’s anything that stands in opposition to God’s commands, His holiness, and His character. It can hide behind charm, influence, and even “Christian” branding. But the true test is always the fruit.

“You will know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16

📍 What Are You Really Following?

We live in a world where influence is currency—and people are trading in their discernment for dopamine.
Christians are following strangers they don’t know, idolizing people who openly mock God’s standards.

Yes, you can learn from people who aren’t believers.
 Yes, God can use anyone.

But why would you choose to follow someone who is lost, self-absorbed, or clearly leading people away from God’s truth—just because they’re successful?

🔎 Discernment Has Left the Building

Many can’t discern what’s good or bad fruit because they don’t know the Word.
They’re impressed by charisma, not character.
 Drawn to confidence, not Christlikeness.
Pulled in by results, not righteousness.

Social media has become a curated illusion—run by narcissism, driven by fantasy.
It’s not real life. And too many are building their theology from it.

😤 What I Don’t Understand…
  • I don’t understand following influencers who clearly idolize their platforms.

  • I don’t understand business gurus who preach worldly success while ignoring eternal purpose.

  • I don’t understand why Christians celebrate lifestyles God never blessed.

  • I don’t understand why appearance, validation, and fame have become more important than truth.

These are not harmless scrolls. They’re soul-shaping inputs.
Every voice you follow is either feeding your faith or feeding your flesh.

🙏🏼 Here’s What I Do Understand

I understand how the human brain works.
I understand how trauma, ambition, and brokenness form mindsets.
And I understand that many people follow what feels familiar—not what leads them to freedom.

That’s why discernment isn’t optional—it’s survival.

⚔️ Final Challenge: Who’s Leading You?

Before you consume another post, book, podcast, or strategy, ask:

  • Does this person bear godly fruit?

  • Do they point me to Jesus or to self-glorification?

  • Am I convicted when I listen—or just entertained?

“Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

You become what you behold.
 You follow what you admire.
Make sure you’re not following someone straight into deception.
