Extraordinary Thinkers Embrace Non-Linear Thinking

By: Elizabeth Louis

Individuals considered exceptional thinkers have a unique approach to the world, free from the restrictions of linear thinking. Unlike average-minded individuals who seek logical explanations for everything, extraordinary thinkers are open to the idea that not everything in life has a clear cause and effect.

Studies in neuroscience and psychology have indicated that events can occur without a definite cause. Yet, those with average linear thinking tend to attribute internal issues to external factors and constantly seek reasons for various occurrences. By embracing non-linear thinking, one can reach a heightened state of enlightenment and become more open-minded and prepared to accept the complexities and uncertainties of life.

This linear thinking can be incredibly limiting when it comes to problem-solving. Individuals with average linear thinking often display an overdeveloped right prefrontal cortex, which leads them to dwell on negative experiences and inhibits their ability to focus on positive aspirations.

The overdevelopment of the right side of the prefrontal cortex can contribute to increased negativity, a higher risk of depression, and a tendency to avoid confronting challenges, ultimately hindering personal growth.

The challenges associated with problem-solving, stemming from an overly developed right prefrontal cortex, lead those with average linear thinking to give up on finding solutions and instead choose to ignore their problems, leaving them feeling stressed and aimless. This reactive approach to challenges often leads to daydreaming about a life without problems.

In contrast, extraordinary thinkers tackle challenges differently. While they are not exempt from flaws, they generally embrace a non-linear approach, recognizing that life does not always adhere to logic. They are unperturbed by this realization and are thus able to engage in more expansive thinking.

Unlike average-minded individuals, extraordinary thinkers accept that not everything has a reason, and more importantly, they acknowledge that sometimes the reason is irrelevant.

By thinking illogical and unconventionally and believing in the extraordinary, remarkable thinkers can bring their ideas to fruition much more quickly than the average-minded. While average-minded individuals may have an equally or overly developed right prefrontal cortex compared to their left side, extraordinary thinkers intentionally focus on developing the left side of their prefrontal cortex, which is associated with positive thinking, problem-solving, and achieving ambitious goals.

With their positive outlook, practice of gratitude, and fearlessness when facing challenges, extraordinary thinkers can swiftly devise creative solutions that propel them closer to their objectives. Their ability to remain optimistic and practice gratitude increases their capacity to find solutions to problems.

Positive thinking produces more positive thinking, while negative thinking produces more negative thinking. Solution-focused thinking enhances the ability to find solutions, whereas problem-focused thinking increases the likelihood of uncovering even more problems.

To succeed and attain greatness, you must condition your mind to adopt a cheerful, optimistic, and creative mindset. Understanding that life does not always adhere to a strict sense of logic is crucial. It’s important to remember that your perception of the world shapes your reality, which can significantly influence your journey to success.

Action Plan:

First off, what “logical” rules are you trying to fit your thinking into?

Pay attention to when you are saying, should, need, ought, or must as these words are clues that you are thinking in the box and not out of the box.

Embrace solution-focused thinking by believing that a solution exists and you will find it. Ease the pressure by reframing it as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Lastly, ask yourself the question, if you were a kindergartener, how would you approach this situation? Children have an incredible talent for simplifying things and using their creativity.
